Proposals ready for revamping Swat, PATA judicial system

ISLAMABAD - The Law Ministry is proposing several recommendations to Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani for refurbishing the judicial system in troubled Swat and Provincially Administered Tribal Areas (PATA). Law Minister Farooq H Naek said this while talking to TheNation here on Tuesday after chairing a high-level meeting that finalized the proposed legal reforms for Swat and PATA. Sharing details of the recommendations to be presented to Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani today (Wednesday), Naek said Law Ministry is seeking increase in subordinate judiciary in Swat and PATA to speed up the judicial system and decrease the backlog of the cases for ensuring quick dispensation of justice. "We are proposing increase in the number of district and sessions judges, additional judges and civil judges for lowering load of the cases on relatively smaller number of courts in Swat and PATA ", Law Minister said, adding that several amendments in the local laws to align it with needs of the people of the area. In addition, Naek said, constitution of a circuit bench of Peshawar High Court is also strongly suggested to cater the dire call for setting up such an appellate forum in valley. Earlier, Farooq H Naek chaired a meeting that finalized the proposed legal reforms and recommendations in this regard.
