University teacher killed in Quetta

QUETTA - Gunmen killed a senior university professor in a drive-by shooting Wednesday, police said. Saba Dashtiari, 55, was shot dead as he came out of the university in Quetta for a routine evening walk with a student, senior police officer Ghulam Hussain said. The gunmen riding on a motorbike sprayed bullets on him and fled. He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, Hussain told AFP, adding that the student was unhurt. Dashtiari was senior professor at the Urdu department of Balochistan University. It was a targeted killing, the police official said. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the murder. Meanwhile, some unknown miscreants on Wednesday blew up a transmission line, passing from Tarbela Dam to Sheikh Muhammadi Peshawar here in Nazar Banda, suspending electricity supply from Tarbela Dam. The transmission line was targeted third time. Some unknown miscreants installed 4-kg explosives filled in bottles, in all four poles of tower number 116 of main transmission line of 500 KV passing from Tarbela Dam to Sheikh Muhammadi Peshawar, which detonated with big bang suspending the power supply from Tarbela Dam. DPO Swabi Muhammad Ijaz Khan, DSP Lahore Circle Muhammad Arif Khan and SHO Yar Hussain Aalam Zeb Khan rushed to the bomb site and started probe.
