Acid attack victim battles for life

LAHORE - An actress, who came under acid attack in Sahiwal, has been battling for life in Lahore, family and hospital sources reported yesterday.

The 20-year-old Anam Khan came under the attack in Sahiwal, some 170 kilometers from Lahore, after she rejected the marriage proposal of her cousin Fahad Lodhi last week, according to her family.

Her husband reportedly left her two years ago. Local DSP confirmed the acid attack by Fahad and said that police launched a hunt for the runaway attacker. She told the media that Lodhi and his accomplice unleashed the attack as she rejected his offer to tie knot after getting divorced. She added the attacker was forcing her to quit showbiz.

Badly burnt Anam was under treatment in Sahiwal DHQ Hospital from where she was shifted to Lahore Jinnah Hospital yesterday. She was being starred in Sohail’s Khan forthcoming film “Shor Shraba”.

This comes a day after Maria, a 19-year-old schoolteacher in Murree, was burnt alive for rejecting a marriage proposal. Four men allegedly set Maria on fire and threw her down the hill. She was shifted to PIMS in Islamabad, where she breathed her last on Wednesday morning. Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif took notice of the attack and directed authorities to arrest the culprits.
