KARACHI The owners of petrol pumps earned million of rupees just from Karachi on the stock of petrol that they saved during strike on Monday, the insider of the petroleum ministry informed The Nation. According to details, petroleum dealers went on strike against declining profits and closed their petrol pumps, however after the public reaction, they were compelled to open their pumps as the city witnessed Egypt and Tunisia like situation where the thousands of young men came to street and started protest against them. The source informed that pump dealers chose the last day of the month in which the OGRA held meeting to decide increase in the prices of petroleum products by 8 to 10 rupees and to achieve this opportunity for earning more money, the petroleum body had gone to strike. It is pertinent to mention here that citizens of Karachi protested against unavailability of petrol and blocked roads in various parts of the metropolis on Monday against the brutal step of petrol pump association. Karachiites faced severe problems, citizens staged sit-in at different roads as result massive traffic jam was witnessed while Police and Rangers baton-charged and resorted to tear-gas and aerial firing to disperse the protesting people in different areas. The PPDA, however, called off its strike in the evening after the intervention of government officials including Muthaida Qaumi Movement, announcing to temporality restore the service. The people belonged to different walk of live strongly condemned the decision of petroleum dealers association and expressed that the city witnessed like and Egypt and Libya situation where the people came to street over one issue.
