PM, Politicians condole Umer Sharif's death

Prime Minister Imran Khan and other renowned politicians expressed sadness over the demise of veteran comedian Umer Sharif who passed away today after his health deteriorated.

As the devastating news of the legendary Umer Sharif’s demise engulfs the entire subcontinent in grief, the politicians remember the glorious legacy of “a legend.”

Prime Minister Imran Khan said he was saddened to learn of Sharif's passing. Taking to his Twitter account, he said that he had "the good fortune" of touring with the comedian to raise funds for Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital.

Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry in a tweet expressed deep grief and sorrow over the sad demise of veteran comedian Umer Sharif.

Minister for Planning and NCOC chairman Asad Umer expressed grief on the sad demise of a comedian. He said “Umer Sharif had the God-given ability to put a smile on everyone's face, his death saddened everyone.

Taking to his Twitter, opposition leader Shehbaz Sharif said "the one who used to put a smile on everyone's face made everyone cry today."

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz also expressed sadness at the demise of a comedian.

Umer Sharif had been admitted to a hospital in Germany’s Nuremberg on Wednesday after his health condition deteriorated during his flight to the United States. He was shifted to the hospital after the air ambulance carrying Umer Sharif made a scheduled landing in Germany.

The veteran actor's medical condition became a subject of national concern after he made a video appeal to PM Imran to help him secure a visa to travel abroad for medical treatment.

Mohammad Umer (19 April 1955 – 2 October 2021) was a Pakistani actor, comedian, director, producer, and television personality. He was regarded as one of the greatest comedians of the sub-continent.

Umer Sharif received National awards for Best Director and Best Actor in 1992 for Mr. 420. He received ten Nigar Awards. Sharif was the only actor to receive four Nigar Awards in a single year. He received three Graduate Awards. Sharif was also a recipient of Tamgha-e-Imtiaz.
