Army deployment demanded for Cantonment board elections

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has demanded the deployment of military personnel during the upcoming elections of the cantonment boards.

PTI Chief Organiser Saifullah Niazi sent a letter to the ECP stating that in order to maintain law and order, army personnel should be deployed inside and outside the polling stations. Past experience has shown that elections held without assigning security to the military are subject to suspicion.

The cantonment board polls could be rigged in the absence of electronic voting machines (EVMs), he stressed, local political players might resort to dishonest tactics, he added.

He urged the ECP to seek the assistance of the army in holding fair elections.

It is to be noted that cantonment boards polls will take place on September 12.
