PM to inaugurate Sialkot-Kharian Motorway today

ISLAMABAD - The Prime Minister Imran Khan will perform ground breaking of Sialkot-Kharian Motorway on today.  The total length of the project is 69km including 60km main motorway and 9km link expressway. The said motorway will start from Sambrial Interchange, an end point of Lahore-Sialkot Motorway, and terminate at Kharian on N-5 (GT Road).  The Sialkot-Kharian Motorway will traverses major populated areas of Gujrat i.e. Jalalpur Jattan, Peru Shah, Daulat Nagar, Gulyana and terminates near Kotli Bajar where it will be connected via link highway to G.T Road with grade separated interchange.     This project will be completed on Public Private Partnership basis and it is awarded to Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) after a competitive process.  The motorway will be four lanes and it will be completed in 2 years, and after that it will remain with FWO for next 25 years on certain terms and condition.  The Sialkot-Kharian Motorway is the middle part of Lahore-Rawalpindi Motorway as the Lahore to Sialkot Motorway has already completed and in operation while the third part from Kharian to Rawalpindi in its designing stage.   The Construction of Sialkot (Sambrial)-Kharian Motorway will help speedy movement of people and create job opportunities as well. Sialkot is famous for manufacturing sports goods all over the world. The proposed motorway will ease transportation of sports goods in Pakistan. The motorway will improve socio-economic condition in Sialkot, Kharian and adjoining areas.
