SADIQABAD - Former president and Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari Sunday said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) government won’t last long.
Addressing a public gathering in Sadiqabad, the former president said that he doesn’t think the captain’s government will last long as Prime Minister Imran Khan made false promises and failed to work according to the aspirations of the nation.
The former president went on to say that the prime minister failed to understand the political issues, adding that Imran Khan will have to go home if he fails to deliver. Don’t try to become a king after reading two books, he advised the premier.
Zardari said: “The circumstances were the same when his party came into power, adding that he transferred presidential powers to the parliament.”
“There were no political prisoners during the PPP’s tenure,” he added. He also dispelled the notion that the PPP had passed the 18th Amendment to serve its interests.
"Dentist would not have become president, if I had not transferred powers to parliament," he said, expressing the hope that Allah would once again provide the PPP opportunity to rule the country.
"We are the true representative of the people. We are not puppets," he said. He also criticised Imran Khan for citing examples from history to justify the U-turns he has taken. "He will not be able to manage the economy, nor will he be able to hold up to the false commitments he made," he said.
Taking a jibe at the federal government, he said that the PTI government failed to create South Punjab as a separate province. "You [PTI] stole our slogan [of creation of south Punjab province]," Zardari claimed. "We said great, you take this step, someone should. Now they don't have the courage. Why don't they announce [a separate province]? Why don't they divide Punjab's budget? But they never intended to act on their promise. They don't have any understanding of politics," he added.
Meanwhile, Asif Ali Zardari’s daughter Aseefa Bhutto has said that 30 years before on Dec 2 her mother Benazir Bhutto took oath as the Muslim world’s first, youngest and only female prime minister.
In her message on social networking site twitter, Aseefa Bhutto said, “30 years ago today, Benazir Bhutto made history, at 35, my mother took oath as the Muslim world’s first, youngest and only female Prime Minister.
She broke the glass ceiling, she was and continues to be an inspiration around the world, especially in Pakistan.”
