Sharif family meets Shehbaz at NAB offices

LAHORE   -   Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz, Hamza Shehbaz, and Nusrat Shehbaz met Mian Shehbaz Sharif at Lahore NAB headquarters on Sunday evening.

The meeting lasted for more than two hours in which members of Sharif family discussed different matters with Shehbaz Sharif, who is arrested by the anti-graft authority in connection with corruption cases.

According to sources, Opposition Leader in the Punjab Assembly Hamza Shehbaz and Nawaz Sharif also discussed legal matters related to the ongoing corruption cases with former Punjab chief minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The meeting which took place on the weekend in Lahore was arranged on the directives of NAB Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal. Earlier, the Sharif family had requested the chairman for a meeting.

Official sources said Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif also met Lahore NAB DG Shahzad Saleem for a considerable time. On this occasion, Nawaz Sharif complained that his brother Shehbaz Sharif, who is also Opposition Leader in the National Assembly, was being denied legal facilities at the prison cell. He said that Shehbaz Sharif was not given a room with proper lights and ventilation. Responding to the former PM, Lahore NAB DG said that all facilities would be provided to his brother in accordance with the law.

Reportedly, when Nawaz Sharif pointed out that as per general perception the NAB had become a tool against the Sharif family the DG said that all cases would be investigated purely on merit.

However a NAB spokesman denied any meeting between Nawaz Sharif and DG NAB.

A day earlier, Tehmina Durrani met her husband Shehbaz Sharif and said she was seriously worried about his health since Shehbaz has been in the custody for the last two months. After meeting with the PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif on Saturday, she tweeted that the visit had “disturbed” her due to her husband’s current predicament.

She said Shehbaz was a cancer survivor and regularly underwent blood tests and Positron emission tomography (PET) scans, performed by his doctor in London. However, recent blood test reports of PML-N president, taken at the Poly Clinic Hospital in Islamabad, revealed signs of cancer returning. Following the reports, doctors recommended to resume the treatment and proposed a larger medical board comprising cancer experts to be formed for examination.

She tweeted on Sunday again and asked that why the medical board was not being formed to examine her husband. “A board of doctors was to be constituted … That has still not happened. Why?”

Last month, following a series of medical examinations ordered by the court, it surfaced that Shehbaz Sharif was suffering from a kidney infection, a lymph node in his chest with chances of recurrence of cancer. The PML-N leader has been in custody of the National Accountability Bureau in connection with Ashiyana Housing Scheme case since October 5.
