Man shot dead after ambush in Sargodha

SARGODHA - A man was shot dead in Midh Ranjha police limits here on Tuesday, said police sources.

Syed Ijaz Shehrazi, resident of Midh Pargana village, along with his mother was travelling in a car for Malikwal when three unknown armed men resorted to indiscriminate firing at them near chak 9 NB and fled.

Ijaz Shehrazi died on the spot while his mother got minor bullet wounds. Rescue team shifted the injured to a nearby hospital. The body was handed over to their heirs after postmortem. Police registered a case against the accused. The reason behind the incident was being investigated.

2 held with weapons

Police claimed on Tuesday to have arrested two persons and recovered weapons from their possession.

On the directions of DPO Zulfiqar Ahmed, the police along with other law-enforcement agencies conducted biometric identification of more than 50 people and searched 30 houses of industrial area and Chak 13-NB and arrested two persons for possessing weapons. Further investigation was underway.

Woman among six accused held, narcotics seized

Police on Tuesday arrested six accused including a woman drug peddler and recovered narcotics and stake money from their possession.

Police sources said that during ongoing drive against drug sellers and gamblers, team of Urban area police station headed by SHO Tariq Irfan conducted raids in the jurisdiction and arrested three drug peddlers including a woman and recovered 3 kg heroin, 2.420kg hashish and 20 liter of liquor from them.

Meanwhile, police team had also caught three gamblers and recovered Rs 30,570 stake money from their possession. They were identified as Parveen Bibi, Amjad Hussain, Nadeem Iqbal, Khurram Shahzad, Tahir Shoukat and Muhammad Hassan.

Police registered separate cases against the accused and started investigation.
