NAB arrests accused at Benazir Airport

ISLAMABAD -  National Accountability Bureau Rawalpindi has arrested accused Muzaffar Nishat, a proclaimed offender involved in corruption and corrupt practices.

The NAB arrested the accused on his arrival to Pakistan at the Benazir Bhutto International Airport on Tuesday.

As per details, accused Muzaffar Nishat was involved in corruption and corrupt practices by misusing his authority as a member of Purchase Committee for purchase of vehicles. He was member of Purchase Committee, which violated the Purchase Rules by recommending the advance payments to the dealers.  The advance payments made without any guarantee which were approved by the Chairman PARC (C.M. Anwar Khan) and recommended by the members of purchase committee in violation of finance rules. Subsequently purchase of vehicles was made and about Rs9.7 million have been misappropriated in the shape of exorbitant rates and fraudulent transfer from the PARC’s account to Alpha Motors & Wings Motors.

He was deliberately avoiding to appear before the court and absconded. Therefore, he declared as Proclaimed Offender. Perpetual warrants of arrest were issued vide Accountability Court No. IV, Rawalpindi / Islamabad. Moreover, proclamations u/s 87 Cr. PC were issued against him vide Accountability Court No. IV Rawalpindi / Islamabad order dated 30.06.2004 in Reference No. 96/2004.

The accused shall be produced before the Accountability Court Islamabad tomorrow for physical remand under NAB ordinance 1999.

NAB CHIEF ORDERS OUTPUT REVIEW OF ALL BUREAUS

National Accountability Bureau Chairman Justice Javed Iqbal Tuesday directed the inspection and monitoring team to conduct annual evaluation and performance review of NAB headquarters and all the regional bureaus.

According to a statement, he directed that the review should be conducted under comprehensive grading system on the basis of their performance of last previous year and submit report in March 2018.

The deficiencies of NAB headquarters and all the regional bureaus under comprehensive grading system would not only be pointed out but also necessary action would also be taken against inefficient and corrupt officials.

The officials would be granted ample opportunity to clarify their position or charges levelled against them about inefficiency, corruption and corrupt practices.
