Peshawar   -  An excise officer along with another accomplice was arrested in a drug smuggling case while 516 proclaimed offenders have been arrested during a special campaign during the last 10 days in the provincial capital.

A spokesman for Peshawar police said that on the directives of SSP Operations Haroon Rasheed, the police launched a crackdown against those wanted in cases of murders, attempted murders, kidnappings and other serious nature crimes. Besides the arrests, various kinds of arms were also recovered during the crackdown.

Meanwhile, ASI Usman Zaffar of the Excise Department and his friend Asad Ali were arrested while they were allegedly smuggling 6kg charas to Punjab province.  The police said that during interrogations, both the arrestees had confessed to their involvement in the drug smuggling.
