LAHORE - Pakistan ladies tennis champion Ushna Suhail of Wapda began 2022 with another national tennis title as she defeated spirited Sarah Mahboob Khan 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 in the 7th Begum Kulsum Saifullah Khan National Ranking Tennis Tournament 2021-22 final at PTF Tennis Complex Islamabad.
The enthralling and hard-fought final was witnessed and enjoyed by Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) President Salim Saifullah Khan and the PTF Council members. Players, their families and a good number of tennis enthusiasts were also present on the occasion.
In the ladies singles final, Ushna, the only WTA ranked Pakistan female player, was up against Sarah Mahboob and displayed outstanding tennis skills and techniques against her rival to win the title-match by 2-6, 6-2, 6-2. Sarah though started the final on a high note and fully dominated the first set to win it 6-2.
Ushna then made a strong comeback and utilized her skills and wide experience against experienced Sarah to win the next two sets with a same margin of 6-2, 6-2 to grab the title. “I am delighted to start 2022 with a title triumph. I am keen to further improve my game and skills and win more titles for me and my country at national and international level,” said Wapda’s talented player Ushna Suhail.
Meanwhile in the men’s singles semifinals, M Abid beat Muzammil Murtaza 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 to set final clash against Aqeel Khan, who defeated Muhammad Shoaib 6-3, 6-2. In boys’ U-18 singles semifinals, Hasheesh Kumar beat Ahmed Nael Qureshi 6-0, 6-4 and Sami Zeb beat Mahatir Muhammad 6-4, 6-1.
In the girls U-18 singles semifinals, Amna Ali Qayum beat Saher Aleem 6-1, 6-0 and Natalia Zaman beat Sheeza Sajid 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. In the boys’ U-14 singles semifinals, Asad Zaman beat Abubakar Talha 4-0, 5-4(2) and M Salar beat M Ibrahim 2-4, 5-4(3), 4-2. In boys/girls U-12 singles semifinals, Amir Mazari beat Nabeel Ali Qayum 4-1, 4-1 and Abubakar Talha beat Samer Zaman 4-1, 4-1.
