IHC disposes of  petition seeking contempt  proceedings against secretary finance

ISLAMABAD - The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Friday disposed of a writ petition seeking contempt of court proceedings against Secretary Finance for not de-notifying the appointments of ArifUsmani as President National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) and ZubairSoomro as Chairman Board of Directors (BoD) after court’s judgment against them.
A single bench of IHC comprising Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani conducted hearing of the petition which also sought contempt of court proceedings against the Federal Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhary for his tweet in which he said that the country is facing heavy losses due to “judicial activism” and for casting aspersions against the court judgment.
During the hearing, Justice Kayani said that it is too earlier to file a contempt of court as the court had announced the said announcement on June 29.
At this, the counsel for petitioner requested the court to defer the hearing for some time. The judge said that no need to adjourn the proceedings and when you deem it appropriate constitutionally you can file it again.
Then, the counsel said that he intended to withdraw the contempt of court petition. Therefore, the court disposed of the petition after the petitioner withdrew it.
