KARACHI - Citizens Police Liaisons Committee (CPLC) chief Ahmed Chinoy tendered his resignation to Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan here on Tuesday while authorities have decided to shift CPLC office at police headquarter from Governor House Sindh.
Sources privy to the matter revealed that the decision has been taken following the law and order meeting held by Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah.
The committee had never been criticised since it emerged as a non-political statutory institution headed by Nazim Haji and the Jamil Yousuf, while the appointment of the Chinoy got controversial for last couple of months. Sources privy to the matter revealed that Chinoy was not in the good books of security agencies. Chinoy replaced former CPLC Chief Sharfuddin Memon and was appointed as the fourth CPLC chief in March 2010.
CPLC chief Chinoy came under criticism during Karachi Targeted Operation and when former home minister Sindh Zulfiqar Mirza in a press conference in August 2011 raised questions against Ahmed Chinoy for holding an important position in MQM’s welfare wing – Khidmat-e-Khalq Foundation. Chinoy contributed in the release of abductees from the captivity of Somali pirates.
Police had earlier took control of surveillance cameras from CPLC installed by KMC’s command and control centre.
The resignations of around 40 CPLC employees including deputy director from CPLC, who are now associated with Rangers Special Task Force have also been created for Chinoy.
