GUJRANWALA - A 30-year-old young man, Sadiq, was killed after his throat was slit with a kite string while he was riding a bike in Baghbanpura Chowk of Gujranwala on Sunday.
He was a resident of the Gurunanakpura area of Gujranwala.
According to details, the victim was on his way back to home when a sharp kite string hits him, slitting his throat. As Sadiq started bleeding, he was rushed to hospital with the help of some passersby where he was declared brought dead.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar has taken notice of death of a man due to a stray kite string in Baghbanpura area of Gujranwala and sought a report from Regional Police Officer (RPO).
He also ordered for initiating legal action against the culprits, said a handout issued here on Sunday.
Usman Buzdar expressed a deep sense of sorrow and grief over the incident and extended his heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the bereaved family.
The CM said that ensuing complete ban on kite flying was a responsibility of the police and termed the loss of precious human lives a failure and criminal negligence of the police station concerned. He directed the police to ensure effective implementation of the ban on kite flying besides taking preventive measure to avoid such incidents in future.
Earlier in Lahore, a metallic kite-string claimed another life where a citizen died on the spot when his throat was slit by the string in Harbanspura area.
Lahore police said the deceased was 35 to 40 years old. Lahore police chief Ghulam Mehmood Dogar took notice of the incident while DIG Lahore Police Sajid Kiyani suspended SHO Harbanspura.
A few days ago, a 33-year-old man was injured due to a kite string at Wahdat Road in Lahore.
Earlier in March, a Dyal Singh College teacher named Aftab Ahmad died when a metallic kite string ran across his neck near Ichhra on Ferozepur Road when he was on his way to the college in the morning.
