Dysfunctional Gwadar desalination plant irks CM

QUETTA - The dysfunctional desalination water plant in Gwadar has irked Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Sanaullah Zehri who orders immediate functionalising the plant to meet rising demand of water.

The plant has capacity to desalinate 2 million gallons of water on regular basis, but it failed to meet the demand of drinkable water in the city. The chief minister Thursday expressed displeasure over the dysfunctional desalination water plant in a briefing in Gawadar.

The chief minister was informed during the briefing that the project worth Rs 984 million was passed on to Public Health Engineering (PHE) in May 2016, though, the desalination plant could not functionalise due to some technical faults and other challenges.

Zehri said that the construction works at desalination plant was launched in 2006, but regretfully, it could not get functionalized since then and marked it above logic.

Nawab Zehri said Gwadar city was turning to become epicentre of economic and trade activities in future, for which it was direly exigency to strengthen basic infrastructure. He also assured that all problems will soon be fixed to make this plant functional.
