Govt has enough stocks to meet domestic needs

ISLAMABAD (APP) - On the special directives of Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani about 3500 tons of wheat has been supplied to Gilgit Baltistan (GB) by air to avert any possibility of food shortage in the province. This was stated by Federal Minister for Food and Agriculture Nazar Muhammad Gondal here while chairing a meeting held to review the supply and stocks situation in the province. We have so far dispatched 3500 tons of wheat to GB through C-130 and the process would continue until the roads damaged by the devastating floods are reconstructed, the said. National Highways Authority (NHA) has already been directed to quickly restore the damaged roads so that we can speed up the supply chain, he added. He said the Prime Minister has also issued special instructions regarding the availability of wheat in all parts of the country especially in the flood affected areas. He further said that at present the government has enough stocks to meet the domestic requirements and all the provinces have been directed to make sure the availability of certified wheat seed for the upcoming season. He said the government would facilitate the farmers within its means and resources available. The meeting was also attended by Secretary MinFA Junaid Iqbal and other senior officials of the ministry.
