Peshawar - At least 210 million litres clean water is wasted on washing vehicles at service stations in the provincial capital, according to a report compiled by Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP).
The report further said Peshawar houses around 200 service stations and each station uses around 16000 litres water on daily basis.
The report called recycling of water at the car wash centres so that the same water could be used again on cleaning vehicles.
The water being released from car wash centres is also very harmful and is a cause of water pollution when it is released into drainage system of the city as it carries oil, sand, grease, hydrofluoric acid, phosphate, detergent, and other chemicals. Also, the water released from these auto service centres cannot be cleaned by the sewerage treatment plants even.
The authorities have been urged to map the washing stations of vehicles and a detailed report be filed on water usage in all stations of the provincial capital.
