Lahore Police organise women empowerment march

LAHORE - Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Ghulam Mehmood Dogar Thursday launched the first ever official website of Lahore police, based on citizen centric policing and community awareness.

SSP (discipline) Mubasher Makan, SDPO North Cantt ASP Bushra Nisar, senior police officers, and media persons were present on the occasion.

Ghulam Mehmood Dogar informed the mediamen that the user-friendly website, having one-page layout, was up to the international standards with unique features. “It is supported by a strong anti-hacking Drupal CMS mechanism,” he added. “The website (lahorepolice.gov.pk) also has a functional disability mode in it to facilitate special persons,” the CCPO stated, adding: “The website contains all the information and guidelines for citizens related to different services being provided by Lahore police.”

While giving details to the media persons, Ghulam Mehmood Dogar said: “With the prospective vision to incorporate digital technology in systems, Lahore police have digitalised almost all their functions for better service delivery. Victims of gender based violence can also directly launch their complaints using this website.” He further said that the website had all the details of senior police officers and their contact numbers with “Who We Are” tab. “The website will serve the general public through its remarkable features like community policing, public service guidelines, digital systems and applications, and Police Facilitation Centres,” he said.

Police launch website for effective policing

“It will also facilitate police officials through its unique tab named ‘Information for Police’ which will ensure transparency of internal affairs by regular updating of seniority lists, promotion orders, exams and interview schedules, standing orders, and orders affecting general members of any cadre of Lahore police,” he added. The CCPO also launched awareness campaign of Lahore police against gender harassment and violence to assure safety and security to women folk. On his directions, SDPO North Cantt ASP Bushra Nisar led “Women Safety and Empowerment Flag March” comprising female police officers and officials of all the units of Lahore police including female traffic warden bikers from Capital City Police Headquarters, Lahore.

The flag march passed through different roads including China Chowk, Shahrah Aiwan-e-Tijarat, Jail Road, Gulberg and concluded at Govt Home Economics College for Girls where ASP Bushra Nisar delivered awareness lecture to the students regarding precautionary measures and downloading “Women Safety App” in their android phones to get immediate police help in case of any emergency.

While taking to the media persons, CCPO Ghulam Mehmood Dogar said that the first purpose of the flag march was to express solitary with women, assuring them that Lahore police were with them against any sort of sexual harassment and violence. “Secondly, the march was organised to make female students of girls’ colleges and universities aware of the importance of downloading ‘Women Safety App’ of Punjab police in their android cellular phones so as to contact and get timely police help in case of any emergency situation,” he explained.

CCPO Ghulam Mehmood Dogar said it was absolutely essential that women should raise their voice against every form of violence and get the perpetrators to justice. “It will not only teach the perpetrators a lesson but also act as a deterrent in future.”

The CCPO said that Lahore police would establish two ‘Women Anti-Harassment and Violence Cells’ in the city within a few days. 

One at Defense Area (B) police station and the other at Police Khidmat Markaz (Liberty) to ensure prompt solution to their problems through registration of cases and investigation of crimes reported against women. “Policewomen will run these cells as ‘Victim Support Officers’ to provide all possible assistance to the aggrieved women and dedicated telephone lines will also be provided to the cells to ensure timely response,” he concluded.
