PPP to continue to safeguard parliament, says Asif Zardari

PML-N should also be happy on PPP’s success: Bilawal

ISLAMABAD/ KHAIRPUR   -   President Pakistan Peoples’ Party Parliamentarians Asif Ali Zardari said Saturday that the philosophy and ideology of the founder of Pakistan Peoples’ Party Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto is guidance for us and the PPP will continue to safeguard the parliamentary system in the country.

Earlier, Chairman Pakistan Peoples’ Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari postponed the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting scheduled on April 5 due to sessions of Senate and National Assembly.

Secretary General Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) Syed Nayyer Hussain Bukhari on Saturday said the decision was taken because most of party members have to attend sessions of upper and lower house of the parliament and would not be able to attend the CEC meeting, said a statement issued here.

President Zardari said this in a message on the martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. He said that the party will never compromise on the principle that people are the source of power.

The Quaid-e-Awam built this nation from the ashes of defeat and gave the downtrodden masses a voice and courage to fight for their rights. He changed the trend in politics and established the rule of people. He showed the world that the true leader of the people accepts death with grace but does not compromise on principles. “Today we reiterate our resolve to continue to defend the country and its constitution,” he added.

The PPP gave the 1973 constitution and restored it in its original form by the 18th amendment and fulfilled the promise of provincial autonomy made by the Quaid-e-Awam to the people,” he added. The PPP will defeat all the conspiracies against 18th amendment, he vowed.

While addressing a press conference at the residence of former Sindh Chief Minister Sayed Qaim Ali Shah in Khairpur, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari lamented that the PPP was the only political party opposing the incumbent government and called upon the members of the opposition to cast differences aside and unite against the government.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that it had been the “good luck” of the government and Prime Minister Imran Khan that the opposition didn’t move a motion of no-confidence against him after the government’s defeat in the election for the Islamabad Senate seat.

“The rest of our friends in the Opposition, are doing opposition with the opposition (PPP),” says Bilawal. He said only Prime Minister Imran Khan was benefitting from this lack of unity among the opposition and it was the opposition’s failure that it couldn’t expose “Imran Khan’s effort to snatch the independence of the state bank and also failed to expose Imran Khan’s hypocrisy as far as Kashmir is concerned.

Bilawal reiterated that it was the PPP’s desire to do opposition together with other political parties, which is why the basis for the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) had been laid down on September 20, 2020.

The PPP chairman said engaging in accusations was not in the favour for any party of the opposition which is why he resisted from responding to any of them. “Otherwise you know we can give befitting answers for everything.” The PPP had called the CEC meeting to decide on resignations from assemblies after its leadership came under fire from the Opposition parties over the issue. While all major parties have shown their willingness for the move, PPP has sought time to deliberate on the matter. Bilawal said.

He hoped that PDM chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman would recover soon as he had a “very important role to play as the leader of the PDM”. Bilawal also prayed for early recovery of Fazl Rehman. Bilawal urged the PML-N to exhibit strength and a cool temperament.

“We are happy when PML-N wins any by-election so PML-N should also be happy on PPP’s success and we shouldn’t deal damage to such a grand purpose for which we’ve collected because of small jealousies.”

He said the aim of the PDM was for democracy to flourish, to ensure free and fair elections and protection of the people.

Earlier, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari visited the residence of former Chief Minister Sindh Sayed Qaim Ali Shah and MNA Sayed Nafisa Shah and expressed deep grief over the death of Muzaffar Ali Shah and Ms Najima Shah, the son, and daughter of Qaim Ali Shah, and prayed Almighty Allah to grant a grand palace in heaven for departed souls.

Qamar Zaman Kaira, Sayed Nasir Shah, Sayed Owais Qadir Shah, provincial ministers, Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, the Provincial president PPP Sindh, provincial ministers including Suhail Anwar Siyal, Eijaz Jakhrani, Noman Islam Shaikh, Sayed Furukh Ahmed Shah, Irslan Islam Shaikh, Eijaz Dhamirah, Nawab Khan Wassan, Sajid Bhanbhan, Naeem Khurral, Munwar Wassan and others were also present on this occasion.
