NAB fails to guard Ogra scam report

ISLAMABAD - Despite tall claims made by the incumbent chairman National Accountability Bureau Major (Retd) Qamar Zaman Chaudhary to deal everything on merit, the NAB has completely failed to even secure its investigation report of the multibillion rupee Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) corruption scam due to some black sheep within the bureau, well-placed sources told The Nation on Monday.
According to details, after completion of interrogation and investigation in OGRA scam the NAB Rawalpindi in last November forwarded multibillion rupee scam investigation report and reference to the headquarter NAB for final approval from the chairman. However, before the final approval from the chairman the investigation report of the scam was delivered to the accused and after having this investigation report some of the major accused managed the answers of the allegations levelled against them after consulting their counsels and submitted replies to the NAB authorities, the sources added.
Interestingly, the incumbent chairman has not directed any inquiry or investigation against the NAB officials who managed the leakage of the investigation report which indicates that the higher authorities of the federal watchdog were united in the delivery of investigation report to the accused involved in mega corruption of OGRA scam, the sources said.
Similarly, the NAB had not submitted the OGRA scam complete reference to the Accountability Court (AC)-1 Islamabad until Monday, though the AC-1 has to take up the OGRA case today, the sources added.
Although the corrupt cronies of the accused within the NAB involved in the investigation report violated the government secret act by leaking the report, yet the higher authorities of the federal watchdog have no concern with this, it is learnt.
After the leakage of the investigation report of OGRA scam some accused went to the courts for restraining orders and some of them managed to send their answers regarding allegation levelled against them and claimed their innocence, the sources added.
The point is that the dubious finalisation of the investigation into the OGRA scam, in which some blue-eyed and favourites are believed to be released by the charges against them and some others are being dragged into the scam, the sources told.
Despite repeated attempts made by the scribe to seek official version of the chairman NAB on his cell phone number 03008548853, neither the phone was attended nor the chairman bothered to respond to the text messages of this scribe.
