Islamabad - Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has directed to provide police security to all educational institutions and media houses in the federal capital.
The meeting held at the ministry of interior yesterday decided that no educational institution would be left unattended.
An official of the ministry of interior said that a comprehensive security plan would be devised to provide security cover to over 1,100 educational institutions and all media houses located in the jurisdiction of Islamabad.
The minister said that clusters of educational institutions and media houses should be made so that police could reach each area and maximum security could be provided to them.
The national coordinator of National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA), chief commissioner, inspector general of Islamabad police, deputy commissioner, SSP (Operations), zonal SPs, and senior officers of interior ministry attended the meeting.
The meeting reviewed law and order, security arrangements put in place for educational institutes, media houses and other important buildings, various measures being taken to further improve policing in the federal capital and the progress made so far on registration of INGOs.
On the directions of the interior minister, the IGP also called back over 100 police officials deputed with retired police officers. The minister said that these officials were illegally deputed with the officers.
Separately, Minister of State for Capital Administration & Development Division (CA&DD) Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhary has directed the owners of the private schools to ensure implementation of the security guidelines issued by the government.
The minister of state issued these directions during a meeting with representatives of private schools yesterday. The meeting reviewed the security arrangement in the schools in Islamabad.
The chairman Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (PEIRA) and representatives of all major schools operating in Islamabad federal areas were present in the meeting.
While highlighting the importance of security arrangement in educational institutions, Dr Tariq said that security of schools is a sensitive matter. “We have to cope up with this challenge with better preparedness and adopting safety measures as conveyed to schools by the government,” the MOS continued.
He also assured the private education institutions that government is not only proving guideline, all necessary assistance is also being extended from these schools. He said that all government schools of Islamabad remained open during last week. This decision was taken in consultation with interior ministry and district administration, he added. “Some private school owners announced to close their schools without consultation with PEIRA or ministry of CADD. This created a lot of confusion and uncertainty among the parents, student and general public,” the minister observed.
He said that private institutions couldn’t close their institutions without consultation of the government. If any such situation arises then decision will be taken with consensus of all stakeholders so that such panic situation as appeared during last week should not re-appear.
