Presence of hostels in residential areas irks dwellers


PESHAWAR - Hundreds of residents of Faqir Abad Tuesday staged a protest demonstration against the presence of commercial hostels in their residential areas and demanded of the District Coordination Officer to take action against its owners.
The protest rally was started from Government College Peshawar Square and culminated at DCO office in Bacha Khan Square. The protesters while holding banners and placards chanted full-throated slogans against the owners of illegal hostels in residential areas. The protest rally was led by Maulana Qasim Jan and Mohammad Sheraz while large number of elders of the area also participated in protest demonstration.
Addressing on the occasion, the area residents were of the view that presence of these ‘illegal’ hostels in residential areas was a constant source of ‘criminal activities’, as few days back a criminal person had opened firing and killed a local person over a minor dispute.
They said that due to these hostels peaceful environment of the areas is being deteriorated, they said that if government did not banned these hostels within one weak, the resident of the areas will themselves take action to bulldoze it.
District Coordination officer also reached the site and assured the local people that their demands would be resolved after collecting the data. He also directed TMA town one to collect all the relevant data of these hostels and take action against them.
Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer, Tesco, Pervez Khankhel Swati has directed the Superintending Engineers and XEN Operation of the company to boost up recovery in order to achieve their targets.
Addressing a high level meeting of Tesco officers here at Wapda House Peshawar Tuesday, he said that the only target assigned to the field formations is increase in recovery, which would also be reflected in the performance evaluation report of each officer.
He further said that special rewards are being issued to those officers whose recovery achievement is outstanding. He evaluated recovery position of each division regarding arrears from Government Departments in Fata, which were Rs 826 million by May 2012. He went on saying to recover billing amount from industrial, irrigation and commercial consumers to strengthen company’s financial position.
The Chief Executive Officer reviewed individual performance of each Division and Sub Division under TESCO and directed to overcome the shortcomings in the matters pertaining to recovery. He said that billing procedure for industrial consumers needs to be streamlined and bring it at par with the billing standards.
He said that all out efforts were required for the company in order to improve its financial health, which provides financial support to our families despite of its meager financial resources.
The meeting was attended by all SEs, XENs and SDOs Operations of the company.
