The 20-year old girl, Sonia bibi, who was allegedly burnt by a man after a failed rape attempt, breathed here in Nishtar Hospital on Tuesday. Sonia was brought to the hospital in precarious condition a few days back from Basti Malook area and police claimed that she had committed suicide.

However, Sonia told the journalists that a man namely Latif burnt her alive when he failed to rape her. She accused the Basti Malook Police SHO of supporting the accused and said that police took her thumb impressions on a blank paper while she was unconscious and wrote a statement on it.

Sources said that the accused is already in the police custody. The family of the accused claimed that they had a matrimonial dispute with Sonia and she committed suicide over that dispute.

Meanwhile, Multan CPO Azhar Akram visited the house of Sonia and met with her parents. He assured the family of the deceased girl that they would be given justice. “The investigation of the case is underway and it is being done on scientific lines to trace the accused,” he added. The CPO said that the challan of the case would be completed within set time and it would be sent to the court very soon. He assured the family that if the accused was found guilty, he would be taken to the task.
