SCBA president for following constitution

LAHORE - Supreme Court Bar Association’s newly elected President Amanullah Kanrani Saturday said they would not do flattery of the government and would support the state institutions only if they followed the constitution.

Holding a press conference at chamber of a senior lawyer and former Punjab governor Sardar Latif Khan Khosa, the bar would not become subordinate of the judiciary or the government. 

He also made it clear that there was no difference between the bench and the bar but he said that in the past, the message of the bar had not been properly conveyed to the bench owing to personal interests.

The president vowed to serve the lawyers community without any discrimination and said they would not indulge in blame game.  

He also shared his future policy that they would not go to the traditional side of the politics.  He emphasized over effective role of bar’s representatives in Judicial Commission on judges’ appointment, saying that the opinion of lawyers should be given importance in the judges’ appointment process.

Kanrani also spoke about the recent violent protests in the country against the acquittal of Aasia Bibi and said that the courts’ decisions should be accepted with honour. The courts’ decisions could only be challenged through the legal ways, he further said.

At the end, he thanked his supporters and especially Peoples’ Lawyers Forum for rendering support for his victory the in the bar election.
