Police mobile injures woman, son

KARACHI – Angry mob torched two police vehicles after a road accident at MA Jinnah Road within the remits of Preedy police station on Wednesday.According to details, the victims Wajeeha, 34, and her son Afzal, 5, were injured when police mobile hit them. She was crossing the road with her son when police mobile knocked them. The enraged residents of the area pelted with stones on the passing vehicles and set the two police vehicles on fire. Police said that police van was taking the prisoners to the City Court when the incident occurred. Meanwhile, a women committed suicide in Orangi Town Sector-10 in Mominabad police precincts. Police officials said that victim Amna, 28, was mentally retarded shot herself to death with pistol of father’s in law. She was under treatment for the last many years. Police shifted her body to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy and later handed over to her heirs.  19 ACCUSED NETTED: Police in their on-going drive against criminals, arrested 19 accused during the last 24 hours.A police statement on Wednesday said that there were four encounters of the police with criminals during the period.It said that one dacoit was killed whereas one police official of the Kharadar police station also embraced martyrdom.In all, 19 pistols, two Kalashnikov, one dagger and mobile phones recovered from the possession of the accused, the police statement further pointed out. It said that the police have registered cases and started investigation.US Delegation meets IGP: A two-member delegation of Narcotics Affairs Section (NAS) US Embassy, Islamabad, called on IGP Sindh, Fayyaz Ahmed Leghari, here on Wednesday at Central Police Office. A police statement said that Tom Austin, Senior Police Advisor, NAS, discussed matters of mutual interests with the Senior Police Officers pertaining to assistance in logistics support and upgradation of Forensic Division Sindh. It said that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was also signed on the occasion. Later on, the delegation was invited to visit the Command and Control Room at the CPO. IGP informed the delegation about the surveillance system being commissioned to curb the crimes and for better traffic management. He also discussed about the capability and capacity of surveillance system with special reference to its expansion. The Senior Police Advisor, NAS, appreciated the Police efforts for having such a sophisticated system for surveillance and assured of all possible assistance. The IGP Sindh was accompanied by DIGP Headquarters, DIGP T&T, DIGP Finance, AIGP Forensic Division Sindh and AIGP Operations Sindh.
