QUETTA: Today the Supreme Court Quetta registry summoned commissioner and deputy commissioner of Quetta in Civil Hospital tragedy suo moto case.

A two member bench of apex court head by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali was hearing the case, during which Chief Secretary, IG Police, and the Health Department presented the investigation report to the court, which explicitly stated that the medical superintendent at the Civil Hospital did not assist in the case.

Justice Amir Hani Muslim said the medical superintendent was nominated in the crime, and asked why the superintendent had not been suspended yet.

The court asked the Advocate General if he is going to remove the medical superintendent from his position or should the court take it upon itself to suspend the official.

Justice Amir Hani Muslim said he had himself seen the trauma centre at the hospital and it did not even have an injection.

Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali asked why the trauma centre at the hospital was still dysfunctional. 

Justice Amir Hani Muslim, questioning the report further, asked why it did not mention the deputy commissioner and the district administration. He enquired about their role in the case.

The court summoned commissioner and deputy commissioner of Quetta.

Last month the Supreme Court had heard the Quetta tragedy suo moto case and issued notices to the Interior Ministry and Attorney General.

The case was taken up by the apex court after former Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry and lawyers’ bodies wrote a letter to the CJ. Notices were also sent out to Balochistan Police IG, Chief Secretary and Balochistan Advocate General.

Hamid Khan representing the lawyers had argued that no one had been arrested and chief secretary Balochistan was irresponsible. Hamid Khan had also alleged that along with the provincial government the federal government was also responsible for the incident.

Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali had asked the Balochistan Police IG to inform them of what action the police was taking.
