LAHORE-Karachi Basketball Club won the Defence Day Cup Basketball Tournament by defeating arch-rivals Mumba Squad by 53-49 in the final played at International Abdul Nasir Basketball Courts, Karachi.
According to KBBA President Ghulam Muhammad Khan, from the winning team, Daniyal Ahmed emerged as top scorer with 20 points while he was ably assisted by Rajkumar Lakhwani and Zainul Abideen, who contributed with 18 and 10 points respectively.
From the runner-up team, Muhammad Talha scored 14 points, Akinth Johnson 12 and Zakaria Khan 9 points. The final was supervised by Aamir Sharif, Zafar Iqbal and Zahid Malik while Naeem Ahmed, Mumtaz Ahmed and Muhammad Ashraf were the technical officials.
Commissioner Karachi Mohammad Iqbal Memon graced the final as chief guest and distributed prizes and shields among the winners and top performers. The best player of the tournament award was given to Daniyal Ahmed Ch, man of the match award to Rajkumar while the emerging players of the tournament were Mubariz Ahmed and Zakaria Khan.
On the occasion, President of Sindh Archery Association Sana Khan was awarded Maj Aziz Bhatti medal, Asma Ali Shah was awarded Maryam Mukhtar Shield, Advance Lab CEO Faisal Qasim was handed Maj Tufail Shaheed award, Har Pul Taza Chai MD Muhammad Shakeel Jan was Sawar Muhammad Hussain Shaheed award.
The notables present on the occasion were KBBA Ghulam Muhammad Khan, Ahmed Ali Rajput, Makhdoom Syed Riaz, M Akhlaq, Jameel Hout, Salim Khamisani, AC Aram Bagh Amar Jaja, M Junaid Khan, M Haider Khan, Zulfiqar Abbas Khan, Khurshid Alam Khan, Abdul Hameed, Ejaz Ahmed, Asad Ali Memon, Kaleem Awan, Azam Rajpar and Ghulam Abbas Ghangru.
Speaking on the occasion, the Commissioner Karachi announced the repair and maintenance of rain-affected International Abdul Nasir Basketball Court Aram Bagh and also announced to organize the camp in December and the 6th Commissioner’s Karachi Cup in January.
Iqbal Memon said: “I expect the girls and boys teams of Karachi, which are participating in the national championships to be held in Islamabad and Quetta, will produce good results and on their return, they will be honored in great style.” He also assured that the suggestion of holding Annual Commissioner Karachi Sports Awards will be carried out soon.
