Zardari asks Nawaz to tell secret of managing heavy mandates

MIRPURKHAS -  PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari, reacting to Nawaz Sharif’s threatening statement of revealing the secrets and conspiracies against him, asked the ex-prime minister to first tell the nation how he and his party have been securing heavy mandates.

Speaking at a reception given in his honour by Syed Zulfikar Ali Shah at village Syed Khadim Ali Shah here on Thursday, he claimed Nawaz Sharif always formed government with the support of the establishment whereas PPP always came to power with the help of the masses. The reception was attended by thousands of people, including women and PPP leaders, including ex-SIndh chief minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Senator Seth Hari Ram Kishori Lal, PPP Sindh President Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, ex-lawmaker Syed Khadim Ali Shah, Senator Aajiz Dhamra, Information Minister Syed Nasir Shah, Home Minister Sohail Anwer Sial, ex-minister Faisal Saleh Hayat, MNA Nawab Yousuf Talpur, ex-MNA Pir Aftab Hussain Shah Jilani, MPA Noor Ahmed Bhurgari, ex-MPA Shamim Aara Panhwer, Azmina Nazeer Chandio, MPA Khair-un-Nisa Mughal, Syed Zulfikar Ali Shah and others.

Zardari further said Nawaz Sharif has power of wealth whereas PPP enjoys the masses’ power. He said Shaheed Mohtarma Benazeer Bhutto was a true successor of her father, Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, and a brave woman. She named her daughter as Bakhtawar because Bakhtawar Bibi was a brave woman of district Mirpurkhas, who sustained bullet injuries and sacrificed her life while struggling for labourers’ rights.

He said Nawaz Sharif had struck Charter of Democracy with Shaheed Benazir Bhutto and PPP had agreed to it.

He said Mirpurkhas, Tando Allahyar, Umerkot, Tharparkar etc. are not new for him as he has his agricultural land here. He said he will watch interests of peasants and labourers.

Regarding the sugarcane issue, he said sugar mill owners claim they are suffering losses owing to purchase of sugarcane at official rates. “We will talk to them to resolve the issue and if they want to go to the Supreme Court, they are free and we have no objection. If the owners of sugar mills are not able to run their units, they should give their keys to me for running them,” the PPP co-chairman said.

On the demand of PPP workers, he announced a party jiala will contest on the Mirpurkhas city seat in the general elections. He vowed he would make efforts for rehabilitation of the poor people of the country.

On this occasion, Syed Khadim Ali Shah presented a book ‘Mai Bakhtawar Shaheed’ to Asif Ali Zardari.

Ex-MNA Pir Aftab Hussain Shah Jilani said Asif Ali Zardari had supported the party in crises after the assassination of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto.

Nisar Khuhro, ex-federal minister Faisal Saleh Hayat, Syed Khadim Ali Shah, Senator Seth Hari Ram Kishori Lal and others also addressed the reception. Strict security arrangements had been made on this occasion to avert any untoward incident.
