RMNP holds Sadiq Press Freedom Award

The Rural Media Network Pakistan (RMNP) conferred 2015 Sadiq Press Freedom Award on Zafar Aaheer to mark World Press Freedom Day during an impressive ceremony held here the other.
Zafar Aaheer, Multan Resident Editor of local media group was awarded Sadiq Press Freedom Award which carries a cash award of Rs100,000. This year RMNP Sadiq Press Freedom Award was instituted with the support of veteran journalists, media consultant and former Director IPI Alison Bethel McKenzie.  Zafar Aaheer was attacked and thrashed by armed assailants when he left his office in Multan city early morning of Sunday (First June 2014). Speaking on the occasion, RMNP President Ehsan Ahmed Khan Sehar suggested that there was dire need for steps to be taken to improve safety of journalists in Pakistan, and to address the issue of impunity, which continues to threaten media freedom. Journalists working in Pakistan are still hopeful that PM Nawaz’s last year public commitment to improving the situation comes to fruition, and that they can play their role in informing their nations; people and contributing towards building a peaceful democratic future.
