ISLAMABAD - Though a marked reduction in number of terrorist attacks was observed in Pakistan during April this year yet militants have demonstrated their intent and reach by carrying out a high-profile attack at a luxury hotel in Quetta. According to the statistics released by an Islamabad-based think tank Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), as many as 13 militant attacks were reported in April that killed 12 people including eight civilians and four security forces personnel. In these attacks, 43 others were injured including 35 civilians and eight security forces personnel. In March, 20 militant attacks were reported in the country that killed 25 people while 37 others were injured. Thus, the number of militant attacks and number of deaths have gone down in April, while the number of those injured went high. According to the security report, the highest number of militant attacks was reported from Balochistan where six militant attacks were recorded that killed seven people and injured 39 others. This also included a high-profile attack at the Serena Hotel in Quetta. The erstwhile FATA witnessed four militant attacks killing three people and two others injured. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) reported two militant attacks in which two people were killed and one injured. The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) witnessed one militant attack in which one person was injured. No militant attack was reported from Punjab and Sindh during April. Out of these 13 militant attacks, seven were incidents of targeted killings causing majority of deaths in which seven people were killed including three security forces personnel and four civilians while one security forces personnel and a civilian was injured.
