Feasibility of health projects evaluated

AHMEDPUR EAST - The federal government will construct two 250-bed hospitals each in Ahmedpur East and Sadiqabad where suitable sites have been finalised and feasibility has been evaluated.

These proposed hospitals are the part of 50 hospitals project recently announced by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. All these hospitals will be established on the pattern of Muzaffargarh hospital which had been built with the assistance of Turkish government.

Sources told The Nation that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has decided to establish two new state of art hospitals equipped with modern health facilities. The government of Turkey will sponsor the health project.

On the directive of Commissioner Bahawalpur Saqib Zafar, Assistant Commissioner Ahmedpur East Abdul Rauf Mahar has submitted feasibility report for the hospital. The assistant commissioner visited different places and selected state land situated in Mauza Abbas Aarbi, Union Council Kulab. According to the feasibility report, as the result of the construction of 250-bed hospital in Ahmedpur East, pressure of patients will be decreased in BV Hospital Bahawalpur where four to five thousand patients visit on daily basis.

After execution of the project, inhabitants of Jatoi, Alipur, Liaquatpur, Khanpur, Ahmedpur East, Cholistan, Khanqah Sharif, Mubarakpur and Uch Sharif will be facilitated. It has been proposed in the feasibility report that a 2.7-kilometer road will be constructed from NH-5 to Mauza Abbas Aabri to facilitate patients from Chanigoth, Liaquatpur, Khanpur and other adjoining areas.

Inhabitants of area thanked Premier Nawaz Sharif for the selection of Ahmedpur East for hospital and lauded the role of assistant commissioner for choosing a suitable site for the purpose.

APPOINTMENT: The district coordination officer of Bahawalpur has appointed Dr Aurangzeb Malik as medical superintendent of Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Ahmedpur East. The Heath Department has issued a notification in this regard. Outgoing medical superintendent Dr Fayyaz has been asked to report to EDO Health office Bahawalpur.
