Man succumbs to police torture

RAWALPINDI - Police Station Saddar Wah Cannt officials mercilessly tortured an alleged criminal, who later succumbed to police torture, sources revealed here on Tuesday.
According to sources, the alleged criminal was rushed to hospital where his condition got deteriorated and he died. Later, the dead body was shifted to District Headquarter Hospital (DHQ) for postmortem. 
However, police including Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Wah Circle Raja Taifoor and Station House Officer (SHO) PS Saddar Wah Cannt Malik Muhammad Khan have stitched their lips to bury the issue under the carpet.
According to sources, police arrested the deceased Muhammad Yousaf a day before during a raid and locked him up. During night, the police officials badly tortured him during interrogation to force him to confess the crime, no matter he had committed or not. The man fell unconscious because of severe police torture. The police later shifted him to nearby hospital where he died, sources mentioned.
When contacted PS Saddar Wah Cannt Moharer on landline number 051-4903789, who was not willing to tell his name, claimed that Muhammad Yousaf son of Rehmat Ullah hailed from Afghanistan was arrested on September 3, 2012 for his alleged involvement in firing on two police officials, who were patrolling in Gulberg area on August 13, 2012.
Three other unknown accomplices were also with Yousaf, Moharer said, adding that a constable Muhammad Niaz died on the spot while other Muhammad Sharif sustained multiple bullet injuries. He added that after committing the crime, Yousaf and his three other accomplices ran away.
He informed that on a tip-off police nabbed Muhammad Yousaf on September 3, 2012 and locked him up in the police station. When asked had Yousaf died because of police torture, Moharer hastily replied: “You should talk to SHO as he is interrogating the matter”.
However, SHO Malik Muhammad Khan and DSP Wah Circle Raja Taifoor did not receive phone calls despite several attempts made by this scribe to know their point of view about the sadistic incident. Similarly, City Police Officer (CPO) Azhar Hameed Khokher followed the footsteps of his subordinates and did not respond to the phone calls of this scribe.
