Martyrs’ monuments await maintenance

SIALKOT
The unattended monuments of several Shuhada of September 06, 1965 War  in Chawinda, Gadgor, Khaanawali and surrounding areas are in a shambles as the officials concerned never paid attention to maintenance of these monuments.
Most of the war memories in shape of Indian tanks and cannons are also lying resulting in Sialkot, Chawinda and Pasrur areas, as the government had displayed the confiscated Indian tanks and cannons in these areas after the 1965 and 1971 Wars.
In Chawinda, the monument of Shaheed Lt-Col Abdul Rehman (Sitara-e-Jura’at) and his companions has been left unattended and inundated with the knee-deep sewerage water. Local administration has miserably failed to ensure proper care and to drain out the sewerage water.
In village Khaanawali, the monument of Shaheed Major Ziaud Din Abbasi (Sitara-e-Jura’at) and his companions was crumbling and has been lying unattended since long. In village Gadgor, the monument of local Shuhada was covered by the bushes and wreaths due to alleged height of negligence of local administration.
Local social, religious, welfare, educational and political circles have expressed grave concern over this critical situation and have also strongly criticised the district administration of Sialkot for its alleged height of negligence.
They urged the government to look into the matter to ensure early repairing of these Shuhada monuments which would also be a very noble way to pay homage to the Shuhada of 1965 Indo-Pak War, who sacrificed their lives to  defend the Motherland, in this regard.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Defence Day would be observed with traditional zeal, enthusiasm and with national spirit on September 6 with a renewed pledge to sacrifice lives for upholding the prestige of Pakistan and defending the Motherland and to pay homage to all the martyrs and Ghazis of 1965 War.
The day will dawn with the special prayers in all the mosques for national solidarity, integrity, prosperity and peace. The main “Hilal-e-Istaqlal” hoisting ceremony would be held at historical Sialkot Fort under the auspices of Sialkot Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA), where, the people and Pak Army personnel will hoist the Hilal-e-Istaqlal, which was conferred upon to the people of Sialkot, who wrote a golden history of bravery by sacrificing their lives for defending the motherland near Sialkot during the September 06, 1965 Indo-Pak War.
The people and senior Pak Army officials will salute the Shuhada and will lay the floral wreaths at their graves in Sialkot, Daska and Chawinda during the special ceremonies to be held there.
Local social, political, religious and civil society organisations would also take out a rally from Sialkot city’s congested Allama Iqbal Chowk to Chawinda, besides laying the floral wreathes on the graves of the martyrs in local graveyard, besides, saluting them with cannons. Chawinda has a great significant role in 1965 War, as it is called a graveyard of the invading tanks of the enemy (India).
