LAHORE   -  Dozens of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members skipped parliamentary party meeting chaired by Imran Khan at Governor’s House in Lahore on Tuesday. The party had sent invitations to all the MPAs in addition to the MPAs belonging to Pakistan Muslim League-Q.

According to sources, the invitations were sent to 183 PTI MPAs and 10 PML-Q leaders to attend the parliamentary party meeting at Governor House. But only 139 turned up in the meeting.

PTI’s Senator Ejaz Ch was of the view that some five to seven PTI legislators could not make it on the way. The meeting was scheduled as part of the efforts to show strength amid number-game ahead of the Chief Minister’s election in the provincial assembly.

Imran Khan also announced that next general election will be held within three months across the country. Addressing a ceremony at Punjab Governor House in Lahore, he said this time, PTI will give tickets to its ideological workers after proper consultation at grass root level.

He admitted that in past, his party committed mistakes regarding the distribution of tickets resulting heavy price, however, we learn lessons from our mistakes. While commenting upon the recent developments, Prime Minister that a conspiracy was hatched from abroad and our people become traitors in this move. “There were mistakes [committed] by us in the past for which we had to pay a high price,” he said. “So now after learning from our mistakes, our first decision is to give tickets after a great deliberation.”

PM Imran said tickets would be given to all the MPs in attendance who still supported and continued to support the party during “difficult times”.

He expressed hope that people would reject this move and teach the lessons to those politicians during the forthcoming elections, who become part of foreign conspiracy. He said that these traitors have planned to end the country’s independent foreign policy and we will fight against them at all costs at all fora.

Prime Minister announced that a peaceful protest will be held at F-9 Park, Islamabad tonight (Tuesday night) after Ishaa prayer.

Reiterating his narrative of a foreign conspiracy against Pakistan, Interim Prime Minister Imran Khan Tuesday gave a call for countrywide agitation against the ‘traitors’ who according to him had conspired with the foreign powers to topple the government in Pakistan.

“It is a defining moment. If we allow this conspiracy to succeed, we will be destroying our democracy and future as well.  It is your duty to stage peaceful protests…it is your duty to defeat this conspiracy”, he said while addressing the party workers, members of PTI’s parliamentary party in Punjab Assembly and ex-federal ministers at the Governor House here.

Imran stressed that it was important to send a message to the traitors and America that it was a vibrant nation and will not allow this conspiracy to succeed. He called upon the party workers as well as the nation to stage peaceful protests on a daily basis to defeat this conspiracy.

He directed district organisations to chalk out plans for public protests which he said should be peaceful. He said he would be attending a protest gathering against traitors at F-9 Park in Islamabad tonight. “In Lahore, I will ask Shafqat Mahmood to organise protests. There should be protests on daily basis”, he said, adding that a vibrant nation always stands against the conspiracy.

“If we don’t stand up against this treason today, our coming generations will not forgive us because we will be putting their future in dark.  “What else a conspiracy is? He asked and went on to say: “It means that if a foreign country like India decides to topple a Pakistan government, they just needed some 10 to 15 billion rupees and buy some 20 to 22 people to change the government.” He called all those as ‘traitors’ who, according to him, played a part in the foreign conspiracy and resolved to confront them through legal means. He said a case had already been filed in the Supreme Court to punish them.

The prime minister hoped that the entire nation would stand up against such moves and would not let the conspiracy succeed as it would not only be harmful for democracy but would also endanger the country’s future as well. Imran Khan said that the Pakistani nation would teach a lesson to those traitors in the general elections who tried to topple an elected government that was pursuing an independent foreign policy. “The people will teach a lesson to these traitors [opposition leaders] in the next general elections by burying their politics forever.”

In an implicit reference to his political adversaries, the prime minister said that these three stooges had been plundering the national wealth for the last thirty years and stashed it abroad.

“Owing to their vested personal interests, they can say that beggars are not choosers,” he remarked.

Referring to Punjab politics, the prime minister said that a drama had been staged here. He said that the PTI defectors who had sold their party allegiance had been lodged in a local hotel in Lahore.

He viewed that the future of democracy and the coming generations had been put at stake by such shabby tactics. Coming down hard on the party defectors, Imran Khan vowed that he would ensure that a lifetime ban is imposed on such traitors who had been elected on the PTI tickets or the reserved seats, and then sold out their conscience for the sake of a few million rupees.

“Such elements are traitors to the nation, to the country and to the coming generations. Unless they are punished, they would continue bargaining over the democracy for petty monetary gains”, he observed.

Also, members of the Punjab Provincial Assembly hailing from various divisions called on Interim Prime Minister Imran Khan here and reposed their full trust in his leadership. The parliamentarians, who met the prime minister, came from Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Lahore, Gujranwala, Multan, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan and Sahiwal divisions.

The MPAs appreciated the government’s public welfare policies, development projects, independent foreign policy and the prime minister’s international efforts for Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)’s sanctity and Islamophobia.

Separately, Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday held a meeting with Speaker Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Parvez Elahi and leader Pakistan Muslim League-Q Chaudhry Moonis Elahi. The current political situation in the country was discussed during the meeting, the PM Office said.
