KARACHI - The Sindh High Court on Tuesday annulled the provincial government’s decision to re-conduct entry tests for admission in government-run medical colleges following allegations of irregularities in the earlier examination.
The court, in its ruling, directed to retain the previous results of the entry test conducted by the National Testing Service (NTS) in October. It further said any party may approach the Supreme Court regarding the matter if it may wish.
An investigation was launched after a questionnaire of the pre-admission test for medical colleges in the province was leaked a day before the exams.
Following the allegations, the Sindh government had decided to hold fresh pre-admission tests for government medical colleges in the province under the Higher Education Commission (HEC).
The provincial government had announced its decision to re-conduct the exams in a notification, on the recommendation of a five-member committee formed by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah to investigate allegations of irregularities in the test.
Subsequently, at least 150 students and their parents submitted a petition against Sindh government’s decision in SHC adopting stance that why they have to re-appear in the test when they have already passed it.
The court after hearing the arguments in the case announced the decision in favour of the students.
Delighted students while welcoming the verdict of the court distributed sweets. The students said that they will work hard and will serve the country by becoming a doctor.

KARACHI - The Sindh High Court has directed the provincial government to complete work on Lyari Expressway project until December 21.
While hearing a case on the compensatory funds for families shifted due to work on the mega project, the court remarked that in case of non-implementation, it will take action against the responsible individual/ department.
The bench observed that the project should be open to the public by January 1, 2018. The SHC noted that the project which was estimated to be completed in 2003 for Rs3 billion is now costing around Rs23 billion.
Despite multi-billion rupees expenditure in last 15 years, Lyari Expressway is yet to be completed, the civic administration have once again claimed that the mega project will finish till the year end. The mega project from Maripur Road to Sohrab Goth, started to cater 0.2 million vehicles annually, have not yet been completed despite promises from respective governments and administrations. About 20 percent of the construction work on the project is yet to be completed.
