Asad Umar to stay finance minister: Naeemul Haq

Refuting the reports circulating around the media regarding changes in the economic team of the Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan and the replacement of Finance Minister Asad Umar, Special assistant to PM on political affairs Naeemul Haq on Thursday said that it was the PM’s decision was to not change the finance minister or the economic team.

The PM’s special assistant on political affairs said that the PM was simply reviewing the performance of his cabinet’s members. He termed the reports of a reshuffle in the government’s economic team as a conspiracy by the opponents of the government. He further said that the PM believed that the economic crisis that the prior government left Pakistan in would be eliminated by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) team.”

Earlier, the Finance Ministry had rejected the reports saying that the Finance Minister Asad Umar was stepping down from his post. In their statement, the ministry also dismissed any reports claiming that there was an altercation between Asad Umar and senior PTI leader Jehangir Tareen.

“Some elements are spreading disinformation to achieve their objectives. There is no truth in them,” it said. “As far as differences are considered, our party holds a discussion on every matter and every minister and adviser shares their point of view after which a final discussion is taken.”
