No amnesty for torture at police stations: Addl IG Zafar Iqbal

Asks cops to work within their jurisdiction, ensure protection of life and property of people: Police not above law at all

Bahawalpur - Additional Inspector General of Police South Punjab Capt. (Retd) Zafar Iqbal Awan paid a surprise visit to Bahawalpur Police Station Cantt and Saddar.

“DPO Bahawalpur himself should pay attention to cleanliness and tree plantation drives at police stations,” he said.

Capt (Retd) Zafar Iqbal Awan talked to people present at the police stations, listened to their problems and directed officers concerned to fulfill requirements of justice by investigating on merit.

He also inspected and took notice of non-accommodation of employees in barracks. Additional Inspector General of Police South Punjab directed that reasonable arrangements should be made for seating of complainants at police stations to ensure immediate registration of FIR. He said that there was no amnesty for torture at police stations and strict action would be taken against those responsible for killing an accused at a police station. He said that even the police were not above the law at all so they should work within their jurisdiction and ensure protection of life and property of the people and provide justice to the people. He directed DPOs to oversee the investigation of serious cases.
