JI-led APC rejects Nato supply line resumption

KARACHI – Called by the Jamaat-e-Islami, an all-parties conference (APC) on Thursday rejected the reopening of the NATO supply routes into Afghanistan, saying the government has ridiculed the 180 million Pakistanis and the majestic forum of Parliament. The APC, however, warned that they would stage sit-ins across the country for this insult to the entire nation if the government did not retract its decision. In his address, JI Sindh chief Asadullah Bhutto, who chaired the huddle, said the government did not respect the resolution(s) of the Parliament rather preferred US apology, which according to him, was detrimental to the country’s sovereignty. He impressed upon religious scholars and leaders to motivate the people against the restoration of the supply routes. Speaking on the occasion, JI Karachi chief Mohammad Hussain Mahenti said US interference in the country’s affairs had crossed all limits because of which the situation in the country had worsened to a point of no return. He said the government had compromised on the national prestige and disgraced the Parliament.JUP leader Dr Siddique Rathor said the Pakistani nation could tolerate the price-hike, but they would never accept any compromise on the national prestige and sovereignty. Sarwar Rajput said hat the government had sold the country’s sovereignty to the US. Mir Nawaz Khan Marwat said the Parliament’s resolutions were exposed to extreme dejection and insult. Maulana Yar Muhammad Rabbani said that the defence committee committed an act of treason.  Syed Ausat Ali said the government had surrendered the nation to the US. Ghulam Mustafa Farooqui said the entire nation should rise against the decision of restoring the NATO supply lines. Matloob Awan said the government’s policies were a reflection of double standards. Hafiz Kalimullah said the nation was united against the decision.  Nusrat Mirza said the decision was made in violation of the Parliament’s resolutions.Among others the APC was attended by JI Karachi chief M Hussain Mahenti, PML-N leader Akhtar Awan, JUI leader M Aslam Ghori, JUP leader Dr M Siddique Rathor, PTI’s Sarwar Rajput, Syed Zia Abbas of the NPP, Motamar Alam-e Islami leader Mir Nawaz Marwat, Jamaat-ud-Dawa leader Hafiz Kalim Ullah, Ansar-Al Ummah leader Maulana Yar M Rabbani, JUI-I’s Maulana Abdul Sattar Madani, PAT leader Syed Ausat Ali, JUI-S leader Mustafa Farooqui, Awami Muslim League’s Mehfooz Yar Khan, Nusrat Mirza of the Muslim Rabita Council, Sunni Tehreek leader Matloob Awan.
