The Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), Justice Saqib Nisar said on Friday that the funds allocated for the construction of dams will not be misused.
"These funds will be guarded and we will not allow anyone to buy houses and cars from this money," he maintained.
Moreover, he affirmed that the funds that are being collected will honestly be utilized in resolving Pakistan's water crisis issue.
While stressing over the need to build dams for water storage, the CJP observed that the Supreme Court has appealed the public to gather funds for the construction of Mohmand and Bhasha Dams.
The court declared that people should contribute directly to the account whether it is in local or foreign currencies. The funds are accepted at all branches of state Bank of Pakistan, all treasuries and branches or National Bank of Pakistan and other organized banks.
The account titled 'DIAMER BASHA AND MOHMAND DAM FUND–2018' has been opened by the Finance Division of the Government of Pakistan under the Supreme Court’s order. It bears account No 03-593-299999-001-4 and IBN No PK06SBPP0035932999990014.
According to a press release issued by Supreme Court of Pakistan, CJP Saqib Nisar was the first one to donate Rs 1 million to the account.
Nisar pronounced that the court has asked State Bank to share the information on the website, and assured that the website will be updated every hour, to keep the public acknowledged about the funds collection.
The Supreme Court bench, headed by the Cheif Justice of Pakistan, directed the federal and provincial governments, Wapda and all executive authorities responsible for building dams to take necessary steps and immediately commence their construction.
