Sindh High Court seeks SC verdict copy about Sindh CM

I Petitioner claims CM Murad Ali Shah stands disqualified for contesting elections by concealing his dual nationality

KARACHI   -  Sindh High Court (SHC) in Karachi on Monday asked PTI MPA Haleem Adil Sheikh to submit during the next hearing the copy of the verdict of the Supreme Court of Pakistan about the disqualification of the Chief Minister (CM) Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah.

Sheikh, along with lawyers, appeared before Justice Mohammad Shafi Siddiqui in the court with regard to his petition against the Sindh chief minister filed some days back that sought his disqualification for contesting the by-polls and general electrons at PS-73 Dadu in 2013 despite having dual nationality. Deputy Attorney General Abdul Wahab Baloch, along with Sheikh after the hearing, told media that in the light of the verdict announced by the apex court, Shah stood disqualified for contesting the elections by concealing his dual nationality, as he had remained no more Sadiq and Ameen.

He said his client would submit the verdict of the apex court in SHC. He said that Syed Murad Ali Shah when tried to contest general elections on PS-73, his forms were first rejected by the Election Commission and then by Supreme Court of Pakistan, but despite this, he had taken part in the by-elections few months later and won polls and was inducted in Sindh cabinet as a Finance Minister.

“Shah stands disqualified and has no legal right to continue as the chief executive of the province,” he categorically said. The petitioner, who is also Opposition Leader in Sindh Assembly and the senior vice president of PTI, speaking to the media said that they were totally disappointed with the proceedings of the Sindh Assembly, where according to him, laws were only framed to give benefits to privileged and elite class.

The PTI leader said that PPP rulers had already made mockery of the democratic norms and traditions and warned them to mend their ways before it became late for them to rectify their grave mistakes.
