Authorities told to boost dengue surveillance

LAHORE - Minister for Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education Khawaja Salman Rafiq has directed the relevant officers to accelerate dengue surveillance activities and remove gaps in micro-planning level.

Chairing a meeting of Cabinet Committee on Dengue in the committee room of Civil Secretariat on Monday, he directed making Town Emergency Response Committees functional.  Elected public representative, senior officers of all the concerned departments attended the meeting. Commissioners/Deputy Commissioners & officers of health department from other divisions/districts participated in the proceedings through video link. Additional Director General Dengue Control Programme Dr Shahnaz briefed the meeting regarding the latest situation in the province and steps taken to check breeding of mosquitoes.  She informed that Faisalabad, Multan, Rawalpindi & Sheikhupura were underreporting districts. Similarly, she informed that some hospitals were not reporting suspected dengue patients.  Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) representative presented report regarding the use of android phones and anti-dengue activities performed by different departments at district level.

The representative of Special Branch apprised the meeting regarding performance of various departments, cleanliness conditions in the hospitals and solid waste management in different districts.
