ISLAMABAD - Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on Saturday took notice of the killing of six labourers in district Kharan Balochistan.
Separately, the chief justice also took notice of non-payment of compensation to victims of Quetta Church blast in December last year.
Both the matters have been fixed for hearing on May 11 at the Quetta registry of the Supreme Court.
Regarding the killing of labourers, the chief justice also issued notices to Balochistan Chief Secretary and Inspector General of Police.
Six labourers including two brothers were gunned down and another was injured in Balochistan’s Kharan district two days back.
The labourers, who were working on a tower being set up by a cellular company in the area, were sleeping in their camp when unidentified people opened fire on them with automatic weapons.
The assailants fled the scene leaving them in a pool of blood.
The deceased labourers were identified as Fakharuddin, Javed Ali, Amanat Ali, Muhammad Mazhar, Waqis and Shahzad. The injured was identified as Faryal Bhatti.
The bodies were shifted to the district hospital by security forces. The injured labourer was taken to the Bolan Medical College Hospital in Quetta. The bodies were later shifted to Quetta.
Separately, taking notice of non-payment of compensation to Quetta Church attack victims, the chief justice has issued a notice to the Chief Secretary Balochistan.
On December 17, 2017, nine people were killed and 30 others injured in a suicide attack on the Bethel Memorial Methodist Church on Quetta's Zarghoon Road.
Following the incident, Baluchistan’s former chief minister Nawab Sanaullah Khan Zehri had announced compensation of Rs10 million each for the families of the deceased and Rs5 million each for the injured.
Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi had also announced a compensation package of Rs1 million each for heirs of the nine killed and Rs500,000 each for seriously injured and Rs300,000 each for the injured.
"Even the maintenance money announced by the federal government for the Church has not yet been released," said a press statement issued in this regard.
