SHC orders to conclude Perween Rahman murder case in two months

The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday directed the Anti-terrorism Court to wrap up the Perween Rahman murder case in two months.

Rahman, who was the director of the Orangi Pilot Project (OPP) was gunned down by four men in a targeted attack near the Banaras fly-over in Orangi Town in March 2013. She was a vocal activist working against land and water mafia in the city.

The SHC while directing the Anti-terrorism Court said that instead of hearing the suspects they should wrap up the case.

During the hearing, the legal branch informed the court that there are 29 witnesses in the case of which 10 have yet to record their statements.

Police officials added, “Witnesses have been sent notices and will be provided security.”

On this, Chief Justice SHC Ahmed Ali Sheikh remarked, “Perween Rahman has been murdered and the case is still going on. Lawyers should be aware of good people in society.”

Prior to that, on October 31, the police had presented before the anti-terrorism court Tehreek-e-Taliban member, Amjad Hussain, the prime accused in the murder case.

Khan was arrested from Karachi's Mangophir vicinity, on the directives of the Supreme Court issued on October 10.

According to the police, the accused confessed to Rahman's murder during the investigation.
