Taunsa diaries – A story of change

Transforming from various reforms to governance and infrastructure model, Punjab has always been an initiator to introduce a new era of progress and prosperity for its beings

“….and the promises are fulfilled.”

My name is Fakeha and I live in Taunsa Shareef. I was born in a poor family, that hardly made ends meet. For so many years, I dreamt of celebrating little joys of life like Eid and occasional festivals. I live in a small house with my Ammi, Abbu, and two younger brothers. My mother is not educated but she always wanted me to be educated like every other fortunate kid. My father remained ill due toiling through the hardships of every day labour just to make sure that our stomachs were full, to keep us standing, but we couldn’t afford a doctor for his treatment. I wish someday things would change.

It was a day like the usual days when we watched the news on national television our Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar saying that our Taunsa is going to be rich and we will be getting basic needs of life. We were excited and afraid at the same time. Afraid of unfulfilled promises, afraid of being dealt diplomatically, afraid for being deprived of what we deserve.

Establishment of schools, colleges, and universities - my mother’s dream will come true to see us educated. Creation of sports playfields at many places - my little brothers’ wish will be fulfilled. Upgradation and renovations of health facilities – we will be able to get our father treated. Water supply schemes – we will be getting clean drinking water, finally. Street lights, tuff tiles, sewerage and water supply, in our Tehsil - our area will be beautified. Construction of metalled roads at many places – my uncles will be able to travel easily to earn their livelihood. Construction of park/ public space at Parao Land Taunsa City, D.G.Khan and other places – we will finally be able to go to the parks to enjoy our little picnics. Development of eco-tourism and cultural park at Taunsa Barrage, Tehsil Kot Addu District Mazaffar Garh – people from other provinces will visit us for tourism. Establishment of Rescue 1122 service at sub tehsil headquarter vehova, Taunsa Sharif – we will be given emergency services. Up-gradation of handicraft development center – my cousins will learn the art for livelihood. Construction of stadium at Taunsa – our place will be nationally known for sports. Establishment of Pannah Gah – an economical and home like roof for those who require one. Establishment of Mini Zoo – and we will be provided opportunities to get family trips. Construction Police stations at many places – so that we will be protected. Establishment of E-Library - so that computer literacy rate could be increased in Taunsa. Establishment of Dispensaries – so that my mother and I will be comfortably going to nearby doctor. Uplifting of Government Boys High School – and my younger brothers will also be well-read. Protection of F. North Flood Bund after construction of Layyah Taunsa Bridge – and our Taunsa will be protected with the hazard. And then “…. the promises are fulfilled.”

Things began to change with the passage of time when promises started becoming realities. Our Chief Minister Punjab started establishing and developing things he guaranteed. Many people like Fakeha got what they deserved and dreamt of. The demand to convert South Punjab into a pro-economic zone seemed like a far-fetched dream of an innocent child, beyond every thought but it was a dream came into reality. Transforming from various reforms to governance and infrastructure model, Punjab has always been an initiator to introduce a new era of progress and prosperity for its beings and this what happened in Dera Ghazi Khan. The current government and Chief Minister Punjab took lead in starting the dawn of a new chapter for locals. From last to current financial year various initiatives have been taken regarding several mega projects. It is the hope of the hour that things already on the right track may keep going.

A paradigm shift, a story of change.
