Tribute to Amir-i-Millat

LAHORE - Speakers at an NPT gathering yesterday said that Amir-i-Millat Pir Syed Jamaat Ali Shah Muhaddas Alipuri was a great reformer and spiritual leader.

A special sitting with the subject “The Role of the Amir-i-Millat in the Pakistan Movement” was jointly organised by the Nazaria-i-Pakistan Trust and the Pakistan Movement Workers Trust at the Aiwan-i-Karkunan-i-Tehreek-i-Pakistan. It was presided over by Nazaria-i-Pakistan Trust Vice Chairman Prof. Dr. Rafique Ahmad whereas Sajjad Nasheen Astana-i-Alia Alipur Sayyedan Pir Syed Munawar Hussain Shah Jamaati, was the guest of honour.

NPT chairman Muhammad Rafique Tarar, in his message, observed that Pir Syed Jamaat Ali Shah and his followers played a very active role in the Pakistan Movement. He exhorted Shah’s followers to become the Quaid-i-Azam’s soldiers.

“After the establishment of Pakistan, he (Shah) rendered marvelous services in rehabilitating the refugees. He initiated the Nifaz-i-Shariat Movement when the ruling elite reneged on implementing the Islamic precepts after the demise of the Quaid-i-Azam and Nawabzada Liaquat Ali Khan.

“The best way to pay tribute to him is to mould our lives in line with the sayings and acts of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and make our due contribution to the peace, progress and prosperity of Pakistan,” the NPT chairman added.

Prof Rafique Ahmad observed that the saints and mystics lent an Islamic identity to the Pakistan Movement.

Pir Syed Munawar Hussain Shah Jamaati observed that some mischievous elements have been trying to insinuate that the Quaid-i-Azam was secular, which is absolutely wrong and baseless. “He possessed a deeply Islamic mind,” said Jamaati, adding that Pir Jamaat Ali Shah had pronounced the Quaid as a saint.

Auqaf Director General Dr Syed Tahir Raza Bokhari observed that the people linked to the shrines played a very prominent role in the Pakistan Movement and later on in the nation-building activities. The Amir-i-Millat along with other saints and mystics gave full support to the Quaid-i-Azam and ensured the establishment of Pakistan, Raza added.

Maulana Muhammad Shafi Josh said that the Indian Muslims appointed Pir Syed Jamaat Ali Shah as “Amir-i-Millat” unanimously. He was also the spiritual guide to the Kashmiri leader Ch Ghulam Abbas, Josh told the NPT sitting.
