Talking to goatkeepers?

Mr. Tassaduq Hussain, Consul General Pakistan in Toronto, while speaking at a Pakistani-Canadian trade gala held at a local hotel the other day said that only regions of our country bordering Afghanistan are marred by violence and unrest. He went on further to say that it is a misconception that the entire country is in the grip of terrorism. I was appalled at this blatant distortion of facts being presented publicly by a person entrusted to speak on behalf of Islamabad. I would expect such a behavior from a local councilor in rural Pakistan and that too only if he is addressing an illiterate crowd of goatkeepers. For someone of his stature to say that is an outrage. Massive carnage at Marriott Hotel in the highly-fortified red zone of Islamabad, bombings that ripped off Pearl Continental Hotel in Peshawar and a recent suicide attack in the outskirts of Mian Channu did not take place in regions bordering Afghanistan. It is unfortunate that instead of coming to terms with the reality and devising strategies to face it, our so called ambassadors to the world choose to stuff buds in their ears and refuse to see. -SYED Y.
