First DNA lab inaugurated in KP

PESHAWAR - Finally, the first Khyber Pakhtunkhwa deoxyribonucleic acid laboratory was formally inaugurated on Tuesday to provide services to the people.

Provincial Secretary Health Abid Majeed inaugurated the laboratory at the Khyber Medical College. In his speech, he said that the DNA laboratory would play a major role in investigating criminal and terrorism cases.

This laboratory, he maintained, would provide services to all people of the province and tribal areas. The KP government has spent huge funds to improve health sector. There was no lack of funds and that is why now up-gradation of medico services at divisional level was in progress, he added.

The health secretary assured that vehicles for visiting the crime scenes to the staff of the laboratory would also be provided. 

In his speech, Dean KMC Prof Noorul Iman said that this newly inaugurated laboratory would not only be utilised for investigative services but also be helpful for academic benefits.

Chairman Forensic Medicine and Toxicology Department Prof Hakim Khan Afridi said that the new facility would help to bring to justice those involved in crimes.  He said that it would also give relief them from workload as the automatic equipment would enable us to perform tests effectively and get authenticated results.
