LAHORE - The country’s top judge on Saturday warned the government authorities that the court would stop Orange Line Metro Train Project if the health and education sectors were ignored.
The CJP directed the Punjab government to come up with reports on the budget of the public-sector hospitals, health facilities and medicines being provided to the citizens.
A three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar and comprising Justice Manzoor Ahmad Malik and Justice Ijazul Ahsan, held suo motu proceedings on deteriorating condition of public-sector hospitals in Lahore.
The attorney general of Pakistan, the Punjab chief secretary, health officials and medical superintendents of public-sector hospitals were present in the court.
“Why do the doctors of public-sector hospitals run private clinics?” the CJP asked the officials. He said, “We’ll shut down these doctors’ clinics. “There is no shortage of resources.”
Addressing Punjab Chief Secretary Zahid Saeed, the CJP said they would stop orange line and other projects if the health and education were not given due care. “I’m concerned about the health facilities being provided to the citizens and no one should tell me that this wi not possible,” he further remarked. “We didn’t take the notice to proceed against anyone, but we are helping you to address the issues,” Justice Nisar said.
The bench directed the heads of various public hospitals to come up with reports on facilities and budgets of their hospitals along with their affidavits.
